Aloha From the Islands: From Takeoff to Touchdown in Paradise
Come along with us to Honolulu, Hawaii on a Delta Air Lines flight and into one of the most magical resorts in the Pacific, Disney’s Aulani Resort in Ko Olina. If you’ve never been to Hawaii or if you’re in the dreaming stages of a trip, this vlog style recap is for you, from our airport departure to the poolside check in.

Delta Flight to Honolulu: Comfort in the Skies
Delta Air Lines catered a smooth flight and this was how our journey began.
- Hawaiian themed amenities along with friendly service.
- An upgrade of the extra leg room on comfort+ seats, good for the long haul flight
- Moana (how appropriate!) in flight entertainment.
- Guava juice was one of their Hawaiian welcome treats, along with macadamia nut snacks…
After landing at the island, a feeling of aloha spirit was the welcome that made us ready to stride the breathtaking island: Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, Honolulu.
Arrival in Oahu: Warm Breezes & Tropical Vibes
When we stepped off the plane the humidity ad sunshine reminded us—yes, we’re finally in Hawaii! We grabbed our bags and picked up our rental car (they’re a must if you’re staying in Ko Olina) for the 25 mile scenic drive to Aulani, A Disney Resort & Spa.
Heading west over the H-1 highway out of Honolulu, you emerge past the Waianae Mountains into turquoise waters of Ko Olina Lagoon and the views can only be described as breathtaking.
Checking In to Disney’s Aulani Resort
Entering Aulani is similar to living out a Hawaiian legend. You will find:
- A flower lei as a necklace and some water with fresh citrus
- A lobby featuring local Hawaiian crafts plus views of the ocean through open windows
- Members of the staff who reflect Disney’s commitment to hospitality in a unique local style
Our Ocean View Room:
- Large and peaceful, featuring Polynesian decoration
- A private balcony looking out at the pool and lagoon
- Families will love a split bath design and a rainfall shower.
- In the park’s details and nearly everywhere you see Disney magic.
First Impressions of the Resort
The resort transforms true Hawaiian traditions into aspects that support its Disney story. You may not see a princess everywhere, but Moana, Mickey and their friends appear where they add real value to your trip.
Resort Highlights So Far:
- At Waikolohe Valley there is a pool, a lazy river, water slides and an infinity spa.
- Free to kids, Auntie’s Beach House is the club that even adults will envy!
- Who would not like to play on the lagoon at Ko Olina or just relax near the tranquil waters?
Ulu Café was our choice for a quick meal before we walked on the beachfront as the sun set beside the trees. It was completely magical.

Final Thoughts (Day 1)
We quickly notice that Aulani is special because of the quiet of a vacation combined with the magic of Disney. If you love Disney or beaches or are a fan of both, this place is created with both passion and intention.
Watch for more Aulani-related videos as we visit local luaus, experience the spa, enjoy time in the ocean during snorkeling and have memorable experiences at the resort!
